Wage: $23 to $29/hour
Location: Humboldt County. This is not a remote position
Classification: Hourly, non-exempt, full-time (30 to 40 hours per week)

The Bookkeeper is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, including bookkeeping, payroll processing, grant tracking, and financial reporting. This role involves working in QuickBooks and Excel, while learning Two Feathers’ internal financial workflows. Additionally, this individual will provide support with audits, budget preparation, and compliance with grant funding requirements. The position works closely with the current Bookkeeper, Chief of Staff, and the external accountant’s staff.

OBJECTIVES

  • Perform routine clerical accounting duties within a fast-paced agency, while adhering to established procedures, focusing on accountants payable and payroll.
  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting team.
  • Code transactions by grant and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with year-end audit requests.
  • Execute accurate reporting, filing, and database management in multiple systems (Google Workspace, spreadsheets, paper files, etc.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support bookkeeping operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Support the financial team in grant tracking, budgeting, and nonprofit financial management, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as the QuickBooks expert, training, mentoring, and implementing best practices to improve financial workflows.
  • Verify financial transactions, process payables and receivables, and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with annual audits, ensuring documentation and compliance.
  • Monitor and manage bank accounts, credit cards, and expense tracking, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the organization’s financial procedures and accounting manual.
  • Support budget preparation for grant applications and the organization’s fiscal year planning.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership to enhance financial efficiency and long-term planning.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or grant-funded organization.
  • Intermediate proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel, including the ability to train others.
  • Strong understanding of financial management, GAAP accounting, and grant tracking.
  • Experience with payroll processing and tax compliance.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills and experience training and mentoring others.
  • Current driver’s license, in good standing
  • Fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Child Abuse Index
  • Must comply with a drug-free workplace
